Calling all Home EDUCATORS

Cranbrook Museum is looking for ways in which we might be able to support you and your children’s interest/learning in History. We have a large collection of local history artefacts on display, an extensive archive relevant to the local area and hands-on boxes of artefacts relating to specific topics of interest. We can cover general interest or more detailed study.

A visit to the museum could be a walk round the exhibits, which includes a wide range of our local domestic, social, agricultural and cultural heritage. There is a study room of Cranbrook Colony Art, the Boyd Alexander 19th Century Bird Collection and information spanning the Stone Age to the Second World War.

Our study boxes currently include Stone Age tools, Romans, the History of Toys, Hop Picking, Broadcloth and the Medieval Weaving Industry and  World War 2. We may be able to add to this on request. Study boxes are available for use in the Museum.

We are planning to open the Museum exclusively to Home Educators and their children on Tuesday 7th October from 9.30- 11.30. The session is free but you must have booked in with us. This is to enable us to provide adequate volunteer staff and to ascertain if you have specific requirements. All children must be accompanied by parents/carers and we ask you to provide your children with any materials for recording their experience/learning which you feel is appropriate. Our knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand too, if required.

If there is enough demand to make this viable, we would consider offering further mornings. Please register your interest by contacting us at the Museum giving the age of your child /children and any particular areas of interest which they may have for this visit. We have no agenda so you would be free to turn up at any time and for however long it suits you during the designated hours.
